Fostering

When a family opens their home to a foster animal it gives the animal a new look on life an opens a door for them to grow and become confident about themselves, their surroundings and people again.  Fostering is simple, all you need is an open heart to provide love for the animal, open mind to help them transition, appropriate place to let them adjust in, time to spend with them, and sometime a little extra care and understanding.  In return you get the satisfaction of seeing the animal come out of their shell and bloom into their wonderful own personality as well as helping save the animal by allowing the shelter to take on another animal.

One concern we hear a lot is people think they can't foster because they would grow too attached to the animal before placement.  While this is true in some cases, I’ve never heard anyone complain about it and if you didn’t, we need to remember, if people who love animals won't foster animals in need, who will??

For more information about becoming a foster home, please fill out a Foster Application and then email our Foster Home Coordinator. One of our volunteers will contact you to discuss the fostering process.

Volunteer for FOA

FOA needs volunteers.  A large part of our organization is based on volunteers!  There are many ways to help, from making phone calls, clerical, transporting dogs, screening new foster and adoptive homes, writing articles for Facebook and/or our website, helping with special events, fundraising, walking dogs, grooming animals etc.  We'd love your help, whatever you can give and however you can help.

For more information on volunteering for FOA, please fill out a Volunteer Form and contact our Volunteer Coordinator.
